About Steven Dunn
Steven Dunn is the Founder and Director of School Incident Solutions, a specialist consultancy dedicated to helping schools strengthen their emergency preparedness through practical incident management systems, emergency planning, training and operational readiness.
With more than 25 years' experience in security, crisis and incident management, Steven has worked across government, education and some of Australia's largest public and private organisations. His career began in the Australian Army's Special Air Service Regiment, where he specialised in counter-terrorism operations before transitioning into corporate security, emergency management and executive leadership roles.
Throughout his career, Steven has designed and implemented security, emergency and crisis management frameworks across Australia and internationally. His experience includes advising executive leadership teams, developing security and emergency response strategies, managing critical incidents and helping organisations build practical systems that enable people to respond confidently under pressure.
Why schools?
School Incident Solutions was founded after Steven recognised a significant gap between emergency planning and emergency preparedness within schools. While volunteering in his son's pre-primary classroom, he observed a routine fire drill from the perspective of both a parent and an emergency management professional. It highlighted how difficult it could be for staff to confidently apply emergency procedures when they had limited guidance beyond a written plan.
That experience became the catalyst for developing a practical, school-specific methodology that transforms emergency plans into operational systems. Rather than simply producing documentation, Steven works collaboratively with schools to create integrated frameworks that support staff through clear leadership structures, practical guidance, layered communication systems, emergency response training and ongoing continuous improvement.
Today, Steven supports schools of every size, from remote schools with fewer than 30 students to large metropolitan and multi-campus colleges. Every engagement is tailored to the school's unique environment, student population, operating model and risk profile.
